About The Cavalier Breed And Owning One

If you are in the market for a puppy and you want a versatile dog that isn't too small or too large, then you may want to become better educated on the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed. This breed is generally called simply the 'Cavalier' breed. Cavalier puppies are preferred by many for the great number of positive attributes that they have to offer. You can learn about the Cavalier breed and some of the many reasons why so many love them by reviewing the information here.

Looks of the Cavalier breed

One of the first thing that draws many to this breed is its looks. This breed has a regal look that also has a big touch of adorableness mixed in. They have a sweet looking face with a droopy muzzle, gentle eyes, and long furry ears.

The breed grows to be about a foot tall and weigh between 13 to 18 pounds. Their size makes them nice mid-sized dogs that are still small enough to fit nicely on your lap, but large enough that you won't have to worry about stepping on them and seriously hurting them because they are so tiny they get underfoot.

Caring for the Cavalier breed

The Cavalier breed does have a longer coat than some other breeds, so you will want to stay on top of brushing their coat regularly and take them in for grooming periodically. You will want to stay on top of keeping an eye on the condition of the Cavalier's ears. The way they are long and hang over means they can stay damp and the dog can be more susceptible for ear infections. Make sure their ears look clean and don't have a bad odor. If their ears stink or look dirty, take them in to the vet to have a check-up and to make sure they don't have an ear infection.

The Cavalier is considered a sporting dog and that means they need a certain amount of exercise. However, they also aren't considered to be an overly active breed, so they can do good in a small home as long as they get walked regularly and some time to burn off some energy. They also like a lot of attention from their family members, so they do good in home's with children who will play with them and give them that attention. If you want a loving, playful, loyal dog then you should choose a Cavalier puppy.
